This is a study of the dates mentioned in the Bible and whether they have any prophetic significance for today.

Joshua Crosses the Jordan
and Keeps the Passover

Joshua 4:15 And the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying,
16 Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of Jordan.
17 Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, Come ye up out of Jordan.
18 And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests' feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before.
19 And the people came up out of Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, in the east border of Jericho.

Joshua5:10 And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.

The Story of Joshua's crossing the Jordan actually begins in the book of Deuteronomy. Moses spoke to the Israelites on the first day of the eleventh month. Moses speeches were made on the other side of Jordan in preparation for entering the promised land. This would be 70 days before the crossing of the Jordan river on the 10th day of the first month. 30+30+10=70.

Deuteronomy 1

1 These be the words which Moses spake unto all Israel on this side Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain over against the Red sea, between Paran, and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Dizahab.
2 (There are eleven days' journey from Horeb by the way of mount Seir unto Kadeshbarnea.)
3 And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spake unto the children of Israel, according unto all that the LORD had given him in commandment unto them;

Moses' four speeches and the song he taught are:

* Review Of Israel's History After The Exodus And Its Lessons.
       Deuteronomy 1-4.
* Rehearsal Of The Sinaitic Laws, With Warning And Exhortations.
       Deuteronomy 5-26
* Blessings And Curses For Obedience And Disobedience.
       Deuteronomy 27-28.
* The Palistinian Covenant, Its Warnings And Promised Blessings.
       Deuteronomy 29-30.
* Final Words of Moses And Teaching of The Song Of Moses.
       Deuteronomy 31-34

Apparently Moses' speeches were prepared in advance and read to the congregation. This is indicated in places such as Deut. 31,9, Deuteronomy 31:24-26

Deuteronomy 31

9 And Moses wrote this law, and delivered it unto the priests the sons of Levi, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and unto all the elders of Israel. (Priests = Church and Elders = State)
10 And Moses commanded them, (Church and State) saying, At the end of every seven years,  (If you are now 49 years old you should have been taught God's law 7 times.) in the solemnity of the year of release, in the feast of tabernacles, (Thanksgiving, an notional holiday,  traces its history farther back than the Pilgrims. It started with the feast of Tabernacles. Likewise with Octoberfest.)
11 When all Israel is come to appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose, thou shalt read this law before all Israel in their hearing. (The beginning of the saying, "Ignorance of the law is no excuse.")
12 Gather the people together, men and women, and children, and thy stranger that is within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the LORD your God, and observe to do all the words of this law:
13 And that their children, which have not known any thing, may hear, and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as ye live in the land whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.

After teaching the words of this song Moses said,

Deuteronomy 32

45 And Moses made an end of speaking all these words to all Israel:
46 And he said unto them, Set your hearts unto all the words which I testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law.
47 For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life: and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land, whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.

Jesus made reference to this verse in when he said;

Matthew 4

4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Deuteronomy 8

3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.
