Peter Spends Passover in Prison45 A.D. - Acts 12:3 "...(then were the days of unleavened bread) and when he (Herod) had apprehended him, he put him in prison.., intending after Easter (Passover) to bring him forth to the people." The rest of this chapter tells of how Peter was released from prison by an angel during the days of unleavened bread! Easter in verse 4 is the same word translated Passover in Matthew 26:2, 17, 18 and 19. Paul's Passover LetterRemove sinful people from your churches. 57 A.D.
Notice above the Passover and days of unleavened bread related words. In verse 8 Paul tells us to keep the feast. Today's clergy tell us they are Jewish and besides 'done away at the cross'. But Paul is speaking in 57 A.D. Long after the crucifixion! If all this were done away, Paul surely would have known! They're Jewish! Yes, but only when observed according to the Jewish lunar calendar. But Christian when observed by the solar calendar. And Paul told us. "Therefore let us keep the feast." Removing leaven from our homes represents removing sin from our lives. We don't realize how much leaven is in our home till we start to remove it. Likewise, lesson learned, we have more sin in our lives than we realize. Notice that the immoral believer was removed from the church just as we remove sin from our lives. Allowing a sinner to remain corrupts the balance of the church. It is like a rotten apple in the bushel basket. Some read right over this New Testament command to observer the days of unleavened bread and the two annual feast days, the one on the 15th and the other on the 21st. Let's not apply to the Passover what applies to the Feast. The Passover is not the feast. The Passover is a remembrance of Christ's death till he returns. Paul continues his Passover message in Chapters 6-10. In verse 16 of Chapter 10 he says, "the cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?" Paul continues his Passover letter thru Chapters 11-!5. In Chapter 15 he explains in verse 23 how Christ is "the Firstfruits." The "firstfruits" have to do with the Wave Sheaf offering. The Wave Sheaf offering represented Christ and this ceremony occurred on the day following the weekly Sabbath during the days of unleavened bread. More about the wave sheaf later. Paul's whole letter called 1 Corinthians is a Passover letter to the Church at Corinth! In that letter he told them to keep the feast! Paul sailed away from Philippi "after the days of unleavened bread." Acts 20:6
If the Apostles and early church were not observing these holy days, why would Paul wait? Wouldn't he observe Easter instead and leave the Monday after Easter Sunday? Why would the days of unleavened bread even be mentioned?ALL of 1 Corinthians is a Holiday Letter. It is subject material for Passover pulpit sermons and days of unleavened bread sermons. If your minister believes the Bible Holy Days are 'done away' then 1 Corinthians is likewise 'done away'. Suggested next subject: |
